How To Unblock Facebook Using Proxy Sites
By Michael Gargiulo
Facebook is a popular social network used by millions worldwide, but due to religious, political, and educational reasons, it may be blocked on your internet network. The most common block is using a content filtering (CFP) , which filters out certain sites and makes them inaccessible on the network. While you cannot access the internet through the network without passing through their proxy, you can however counter the content filtering with several different methods. Every different content filtering proxy, filters in a different way. Common forms of blocking are by URL/DNS blacklisting, Keyword blacklisting, and content searching, just to name a few. For each different form of blocking, a different tactic must be used to circumvent the and effectively access an unblocked website.

If a website is being blocked via URL blacklisting, then you can easily access the website by simply typing in it’s direct IP address, instead of the URL. To find a websites IP address you can use several tools, such as the one found at the bottom of this article (Facebook’s IP address is: 69.63.187.17). Type in the IP address you found, and see if it works. If not no worries, as there are many other ways to get passed the content filtering .

Another method for circumventing a CFP is using an Anonymous HTTP proxy.

This acts as a middle-man between the website you’re trying to access, and your request. The request for the blocked website is made by the sites, and you can view the website off the proxy.

A tunneling is another commonly used used to circumvent a firewall is called a tunneling proxy. This effectively ‘tunnels’ the website request you make, fooling the content filter, and allowing you to access any blocked site you wish to view. To access this is simple, considering most tunneling proxies are web-based and accessible over the internet. You simply find a tunneling (preferably on your own time, because often times the Google search for a Facebook is blocked), go to the URL it’s located at, and type the website you want to view into the website’s box. websites are constantly being blocked on networks, but new ones arise daily, and subscribing to a web database should do the trick in allowing you daily access to unblock Facebook.

TOR, a network run by volunteers, could also be used to access Facebook on a network it’s blocked on (and it could also be used to internet anonymity). TOR simply bounces your computer requests among many other volunteer computers, or servers, so the firewall is usually unable to recognize the site attempting to be accessed as blocked.
